van Haringsma Canal

This is a picture taken when I first came here to Holland of the van Haringsma Kanaal. We live in an apartment building at the top end of this picture and we have a full view of the canal, major roads and a railroad track leading out of Leeuwarden to the rest of the country.

The canal is used for freight boats as well as pleasure boats with lots of traffic particularly in the summer. The freight boats can be seen full of sand, iron and steel, parts for building new bridges and sugar beets.

Across the canal there are sheep and cows grazing and just below the railroad tracks we can see a couple of horses running around…

Can’t beat it!!!
